Scope of Practice
Heartsongs Doula offers non-clinical, heart-centered support rooted in trauma- and grief-informed care to anyone navigating grief, reproductive loss, and life transitions.
My work includes individual sessions, bedside support, group facilitation, ritual guidance, and support for bereaved parents, loved ones and care providers.
All offerings reflect the following commitments:
I offer a compassionate, grounded presence.
I will listen with care and hold space for whatever arises—including moments of silence.
I stay within my scope of practice.
I do not offer therapy, medical care, or emergency response. My role is non-clinical and focused on emotional and informational support. When appropriate, I may be available to offer virtual presence during miscarriage, stillbirth, or other urgent reproductive experiences. This is not a substitute for medical advice, medical support, or crisis care. If licensed mental health care appears needed, I may suggest outside resources or referrals.
I offer virtual support in emergent or active grief situations.
This may include emotional and informational support during miscarriage, stillbirth, or other urgent reproductive experiences. My role is non-clinical and not a substitute for medical advice, medical support, or emergency response.
I follow your pace, values, and inner knowing.
You are the expert in your experience. I will honor the way you are processing grief or navigating transition.
I provide referrals when appropriate.
If additional care is needed, I may offer resources for you to explore.
I hold your story in confidence.
What you share is private unless I am legally required to act for safety reasons. I may consult with mentors or colleagues for supervision, without identifying you, if it supports the integrity of our work together.
I am committed to cultural humility.
I welcome your story, language, and traditions. I do not claim expertise in all cultures or identities. If I cause harm, I invite feedback and respond with care.
I recognize the six needs of mourners, as described by Dr. Alan Wolfelt, under whom I’ve trained:
Acknowledge the reality of the loss
Feel the pain of grief
Remember what or whom was lost
Rebuild identity
Search for meaning
Receive ongoing support
Please note: Heartsongs Doula services are non-clinical and not a substitute for licensed medical, psychological, or crisis care. Participation is voluntary and self-directed.
